Freezing Rain + Old Snow = Plastic Snow

Perhaps I missed my calling in life as a weather girl.  I'm always mildly obsessed about it after all.  I took this picture last night after the days "frozen rain" storm. I can't remember ever seeing anything quite like this...frozen snow.  Apparently Freezing Rain + Old Snow = Plastic Snow!
  That's not a river between the camera and the snow bank, that would be our ice skating rink driveway! I have a feeling that I could now say I know what a glacier looks like!

Winter Storm "Gandolf"

"Gandolf" made a stop at our house. It's finally stopped snowing, but it is super cold! Final snow tally at our house (on the untouched back step nearly 20 inches! My favorite part is the snow piled on the branches of the trees and the fact you can see the individual snow covered trees on the mountains (I don't have a picture of that because I didn't have my camera with me at the time). A special thanks to "the man in the red jacket" helped us shovel yesterday and brought his snow blower over this morning! I'm thrilled that I'll be able to get my car out of the garage before springtime!

Hope Floats

Here's what the poet Emily Dickinson (one of my favorites) has to say on the subject...

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

So far today...

I've Zumba'd with Gus--although I don't know if you can actually call what I do Zumba even though that's what it says on the box--at any rate it's pretty amusing--especially at 5:30AM--and to say that Gus hung around would be another falsehood since he hightailed it to his condo in my window as soon as he'd gobbled down the can of "squishy-food" he snookered me into this morning.  After the so-called-Zumba I rode the bike for 20 minutes (Ambitious, I know).  After a quick shower (it should be mentioned we recently got a new showerhead--yay!) I got dressed.  I was so proud of myself having picked out my outfit last night, but then discovered that in order to cope with the ignorantly cold weather and the ice blocks I like to call my feet, I ended up adding 2 pairs of socks and a pair of leggings to my previously selected outfit.  I don't think I'll be winning any fashion awards today, I do however hope I don't turn into an icicle!
