Okay, so I love reading blogs...It's the people-watching gene in me I guess. One of my favorites of late is called Confessions of a Pioneer Woman. Let's just say this woman lives the kind of life I dream of...living on a big ranch somewhere in the middle of nowhere with a large helping of wit, a passel of kids, ruggedly handsome husband, along with the dogs and a nice digital camera, what a life.
You might appreciate her as well...

Today's title nod goes out to Miss Millie Graden, I mean Dillmount.
an eclectic smattering of the comings and goings of a vivacious, stunning, elegant, beautiful, witty, amazing, talented, brilliant, glamorous, distinguished, fabulous, pesky, cute, trendy, magnanimous and most recently--INDOMITABLE, 30-something-year-old woman as she explores the many splendored things offered by a very strange world.

My Little Bug
I couldn't resist sharing this cute picture of the newest branch of our family tree. Meet my niece, Mikayla Faith, or as I like to call her "Kaylee-Bug."
Although I cannot take credit for the fact she is very cute, I can brag about her adorable blessing dress...I made it. When I sent it off I was a little concered that it wouldn't fit, because it looked so small (and I have a tendency to crochet very tightly something to do with the fact I cannot relax).
I forget that babies are very small, so it all worked out for the best. If only I'd thought to send along a tiny bracelet to complete the ensemble.
Now if only I could get enough free time from work to fly up to Seattle to see her in person...

Next Stop ... Houston
Last week I learned that my next exotic fly-away will be to the humid city of Houston, Texas. I will be flying out on the 18th for a week of fun within the walls of the Clayton Library for Genealogical Research, the latest outpost in the Digital Book scanning project.
I guess I am destined to become a world traveller. :)

More than Just an Honorable Mention
U2 deserves more than just a passing comment in the concert list (Thanks, AnJ!)
I have adored U2 since I was a sophomore in High School, I'm not afraid to admit I cut my teeth on The Joshua Tree before discovering the older, equally, if not more fabulous stuff, like Unforgettable Fire. The first boy I dated (dated is a generic term here used to say, I went out with him once) taught me the finer things about U2 and introduced me to the song Bad (Thanks, NW!)
When I finally came into my own and had money burning a hole in my pocket I started buying albums (domestic and imports -- I make it sound like a huge collection, but its kind of weak, I hate to admit)...but that's beside the point.
I like to think of U2 as my first real concert, no offense to Dave Matthews, Hootie (yes, we're on a first name basis), or Tom Petty, but how could they compete with Bono? They can't, 'nough said. I had pre-determined upon learning that Bono and the lads were coming to town that this would be my last hurrah before submitting my mission papers.
As for the date, May 3, 1997 - Rice Eccles Stadium the PopMart tour -- a day that shall forever live in my mind. I was literally less than 30 feet from the stage on the east side of the stadium. I was that close to Bono. (for some it's Sting, but for me it's the oft greasy Bono...what can I say...I've got a crush on him.)
My only regret, the opening act was Rage Against the Machine.
And thanks to the Internet and other slightly more obsessed u2 fans out there you can download the concert at http://www.u2liveconcerts.com/ to enjoy the show for yourself.
(I wonder, if one listened close enough would they be able to hear the fight my petite sister got into with the rude girl who would not kindly move out of the way so my Lizzy could see.)

Independence Day '08
I LOVE the 4th of July. One of the things I love most about this holiday is the time I get to spend with the family. Here's a bit of the typical celebration:
PARADE: As a kid I loved going to the parade, there were floats, clowns, kids on bicycles, all in all a bucnh of people happy about celebrating the fact they live in America. The past few years haven't been the same. The parade, now consists of the myriads of fire trucks from several cities that the tax-payers have financed over the past year, the high school marching band (which by the way played no patriotic songs (though the were playing "Saturday in the Park" by Chicago, which must be legal since it mentions the 4th of July). Then there's the caravan of VW beetles. Don't get me wrong, I love a good VW, but there's some think a little odd about having foreign made cars in a Fourth of July celebration. Now it's pretty much torture to sit in the blazing heat watching the kids fight over candy and waiting for the fire trucks to come along at the end of the parade to douse the remaining crowd with water. It's just not the same when you grow up. I wish I could go back in time to the way the Fourth used to be celebrated.
FOOD: Typically Mom makes a potato salad and some kind of Jello, be it strawberry with banana slices, or the perennial favorite, green with pineapple. Sometimes the oldest Brother grills burgers and franks and we enjoy a tasty meal while watching the Annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. Always a treat to watch people shove food down their throats at mach-speed, however you've got to watch out for those "reversals." http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gpMMONryOCpjEI1RB4O6Jrfx4n_QD91N9UH01
FIREWORKS: In my ideal world there would be fireworks everynight (like at Disneyland).

Love at First Bite!
Marge and I made a BIG splurge and had lunch at The Cheesecake Factory. I enjoyed the shepherd's pie (the lunch sized portion, which was huge and so yummy. And because we were at the mecca for cheesecake we couldn't leave without sampling a slice. I chose the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle. There is no way I can describe to you the delectability of this creation. It is a chocolate lover's dream. After one bite I said to Marge, if this slice was a man it would be Paul Walker. I'm not picky, all I'm asking for is a life a good as this chocolate dream. And if the deal included a Future Husband looks like Paul Walker, and a Border Collie named Hank, I'll be a very happy girl.
