Spanish Words for Chandler

Dear Chandler,

Some Spanish words, that aren't verbs, that start with the letter T, which you hear alot...might include:

tiempo = time
tambien = also
triste = sad
tarjeta = card (like a post card)
tampoco = neither, nor, not either
tienda = store

I do not know if one of these is the word you were thinking of, which you read at the dentist, or heard your teacher say, but perhaps one is right.

If not, I'll keep looking.

Only Two Times...

Years ago, Toby and I came up with this little song right before Christmas (or was it our trip to Disneyland?) Anywho...we had only two more days of work until the big event and that morning one of us started singing the words "Only two times" again and again to a funny, made up tune...and it has stuck. So now, anytime we get close to a special event one of use will start singing our little song (the words can be changed if there are more than two times--its a fairly universal song).

Interestingly, I found myself singing it this morning.

I've only got two more nights of Spanish class. Don't get me wrong I love learning Spanish but I get tired of going to class after a long day at work. Tonight will be our last chapter test and then, next Monday I get to be tested on my speaking skills. La profesora will ask questions and I will have to answer in Spanish. It should be loads of fun!

Fortunately I think I'll do okay on the whole grading scale since I am one of about eight people that consistently comes to class. Maybe I'll get an "A" for just hanging in there. Regardless...there are only two times left.

Yay for Me!

"Magic Legs" and other lessons

In my opinion Forrest Gump is one of those movies that if you've seen it once, you never need to see if again. however there are a few memorable lines that have remained in the recesses of my mind, for example when Gary Sinese's character Lt. Dan has to have his legs amputated and get fake legs Forrest says to him something like "Lieutenant Dan, you've got magic legs."

With that segway -- I heard the funniest thing this week: This is one of those mental picture things, but it's priceless. My brother-in-law (whom we like to call Brother John) works with a guy, who has "magic legs", we'll call this guy Lt. Dan. Lt. Dan apparently owns several pair of fake legs...five to be exact.

Interestingly enough each pair is a different length (ranging from five-ten to six-ten in height). so Lt. Dan can wake up each morning and choose how tall he wants to be that day. Imagine the thoughts in Lt. Dan's brain....Hmmm...Today I need to change the lightbulbs at work, better wear the tall legs or "I've got to work in the crawl space today-looks like a short leg day." Just imagine the fun one could have with five pair of legs!

In Other news, I've learned a couple of things this week that will help in later life:

#1 - If a kitten shows up on your doorstep, just ignore it, no matter how cute it is otherwise you will have to become its mother. Case in Point: a fluffy brownish-gray tabby shows up on the doorstep mewing, The door was opened and we were instantly snookered by the tiny mewing creature. There was no way out--so now Millie sleeps in our extra laundry basket and bites our toes as she welcomes us home each night.

Which leads me to wonder...why is it so easy to pretend a salesman is not at your door when it is impossible to ignore the mewing of a small kitty?

#2 - You cannot use a verb to write a sentence (in any language) if you don't know what that verb means. Case in Point: I was less than prepared for the bi-weekly Spanish test and was faced with the challenge of writing a sentence using the verb "poder" (pronounced: poe-dare). Entirely unsure of the definition (which was later found to be "to be able to) I improvised--it'll probably cost me 2 points, but a the time I had no clue.

It's Official

I'm the Spanish nerd.

I recently started taking Spanish 1010 and I have to admit I love it. Every Monday and Wednesday I travel back in time to old high school (which incidentally isn't the high school I attended My Alma Mater was demolished a couple of years ago in the name of progress--in it's place is a futuristic High School Musical-ish sort of place...it's huge--but that's an entirely different tanget. Let's just say its really strange to park my car under the tree where I used to eat lunch) to be schooled in the art of speaking Spanish.

I took Spanish back in Junior High and always loved the way the words rolled off my tongue. I was one of the few that could actually roll my r's in the proper Spanish fashion. Back in those days I didn't like the class very much because it was seventh period and it was always hot and our teacher had a very violent temper -- once he threw a desk across the room to get our attention.

Grown up Spanish is much calmer...the only excitement comes in the form of my cheeks turning pink (woom! woom!) when the hairly fandsome hellow next to me asks ?Que hora es? But that's another story...

Back to me, the Spanish nerd. I love reading my textbook and sit outside on the deck reciting palabras y numeros to my heart's content. Even the hairly fandsome hellow has recognized the fact I'm a nerd (he shares my textbook because he doesn't have one yet). He says to me the other night "So do you like study this all the time?" and I can't lie so I have to admit that I do.

I'm a nerd.

You've Gotta Love This!
